Carrollton Children's Classes

Virtues Class - A Weekly Event
by Bayan Jalalizadeh

The weekly Carrollton virtues class is incredible. For one hour every week, the Bahá’ís dedicate their time to children from the Peter’s Colony apartment complex; the class is held in the Learning Center.

We begin with the Hawaiian Unity song, “We Are Drops…," and then discuss one virtue each week, from courtesy, to love, to self-discipline. Children of all age groups are present; here, six-year-olds and twelve-year-olds alike find out how these values can greatly improve their lives.

We often break into smaller groups by age, and work on arts and crafts, based on the virtues the children have learned each week. I feel that the children love us and deeply appreciate our affection and care. They continually ask for hugs and for us to spend more time with them. Personally, I would love to. In addition, the parents are highly receptive to our program and want us to continue teaching their children.

Peace Camp, July 2007
by Bayan Jalalizadeh

The Bahá’ís of Denton County hosted a Peace Camp at the Peter's Colony apartments in Carrollton. For one week this summer, in July, a number of youth and adult Bahá'ís and several of their friends volunteered to teach the camp for three hours every day of that week.

The Peace Camp was a huge success! Usually only four or five children on average come to the weekly children's virtues class, but during the week of the Peace Camp, the room was packed with anywhere from 14 to 21 children! The daily activities consisted of singing Red Grammar songs (which the children loved), participating in art projects, step dancing, and performing a skit in a talent show on the last day.

More parents of the children who frequently attend the regular virtues class came to the talent show than have ever come before for any event—which is phenomenal! I am so excited to have volunteered for this program and been a part of something great. The Bahá’ís are truly helping to make Carrollton and the world at large a better place.

"Do not busy yourselves in your own concerns; let your thoughts be fixed upon that which will rehabilitate the fortunes of mankind and sanctify the hearts and souls of men. This can best be achieved through pure and holy deeds, through a virtuous life and a goodly behavior." ~ Bahá'u'lláh
